Sartorius Stedim Data Analytics (SSDA) invites to a webinar on the use of the Umetrics® Suite in continuous and intensified bioprocessing.

Continuous and intensified bioprocessing is attracting much attention from biopharmaceutical companies seeking to maximize the efficiency of their manufacturing assets. Continuous and intensified bioprocessing promises smaller facilities, reduced scale-up risk, more consistent product quality and higher throughputs. There are still many (technical) challenges for practical implementation of intensified and continuous bioprocesses. In the upstream processing for example many single use bioreactors may not be suitable to support the high cell densities required for intensified processing.

However, the wide adaptation to process intensification is leading to many technological advances, such as in the field of Process Analytical Technologies (PAT). The application of sophisticated PAT tools in combination with multivariate data analytics has a high impact on commercial processing, by increasing control and automation, essential for robust processing. Using advanced data analytics can further help here to overcome the challenges of implementation of intensified bioprocessing in various stages throughout development, from setting up a control strategy during Process Characterization to real-time comparison to the ‘Golden Batches’ during commercial manufacturing. This presentation gives an insight on how these data driven approaches can help to evaluate these technological advances to set up an optimal next generation process.

This webinar is presented by Kai Touw, who works as Biopharma Market Manager at Sartorius Stedim Data Analytics. Within this function he works on the application of advanced data analytics in the biomanufacturing industry and how process data can be used for simulation and statistical modelling for process design and control. Before taking up this role Kai has been working on process intensification and next generation facility concepts as a Process Development Consultant at Sartorius Stedim Biotech. Furthermore, he has several years of PD experience, working at Janssen Vaccines & Prevention (former Crucell) in Leiden (NL) on the development and scale-up of an intensified production platform for viral vectors. Kai holds an engineering degree from the technical university of Delft (NL).
