Active Directory authentication of users in SIMCA®-online (Q743)
Summary:
Microsoft Active Directory can be used for authentication of users in SIMCA®-online. This simplifies user management in SIMCA®-online for administrators, and simplifies the log in for users since they need not remember any additional passwords.
Note: The information in this article is also available in the SIMCA®-online user guide and help.The article has been updated for SIMCA®-online 15 which has much improved support for Active Directory compared to earlier versions.
Active Directory brings the following benefits:
- Individual users can be authenticated against Active Directory by specifying each user's Active Directory distinguished name in SIMCA®-online. They can then type the same Windows domain password they already know to log in.
- Users can be imported from Active Directory and automatically assigned the right distinguished name.
- Users can log in without typing a password using Windows authentication (single sign-on). Introduced in SIMCA®-online 14.
- Group-authenticated users can be created that use Active Directory group membership to grant access. Introduced in SIMCA®-online 14. Members of the Active Directory group log in by:
- a) using their Active Directory account name (for example JohnS) and password, or
- b) using Windows authentication (single sign-on) without typing anything
Setting up Active Directory was simplified in SIMCA®-online 15 with an automatic way to specify server settings, as well as better documentation.
